Mark Notess, Ph.D.
Mark Notess has worked in industry, higher education, and consulting. Mark led
user-centered design initiatives at Hewlett-Packard and was the program manager
for a worldwide online learning portal at Agilent Technologies. As director of
user experience at Unext.com, he led a design and evaluation team for online
courses. Now at Indiana University, Mark has taught human-computer interaction
at the graduate level and manages development of digital library projects.
He consults in the areas of online learning, user experience design, and
user research through Very There. He speaks and publishes widely on
user-centered design topics and is on the editorial advisory board of
eLearn Magazine. Mark holds a
doctorate in Instructional Systems Technology from
Indiana University and also holds graduate degrees in education and computer science.

Paula Curtis, MS
Paula Curtis has over 20 years of experience helping design teams
understand their customers and translate that understanding into
effective, usable products. She has worked with such firms as Xerox and Hewlett-Packard as a consultant and trainer
in user-centered design processes. She has worked on such varied products
as surgical staplers, training for healthcare professionals, and online
learning environments. Paula holds masters degrees in Systems Engineering
and Genetics from the University of Arizona.
