A self-guided audio walk through the stories of how New York shaped Christmas, from Clement Clarke Moore's poem and Macy's holiday windows to Thomas Nast's Santa Claus and the first Rockefeller Center tree. Ten stops and 5.3 miles (8.5 km) on foot, from Seventh Avenue between West 23rd and West 24th Streets in Chelsea, through Herald Square, Murray Hill, Duffy Square, Rockefeller Center and Lexington Avenue, to Central Park West at West 77th Street, outside the New-York Historical Society. Allow about two hours: 113 minutes on foot and 15 minutes of listening.
Each stop is a card with a photograph, a fact, and narration to hear and read. Every stop is seen from the street. Shopping, food, drink and museum entry aren't included. The stories are told all year, and no seasonal sight is promised on the day.
